Donating to Tracks and the “Unwanted and Forgotten” Foundation

Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

It’s literally minutes until the end of July (at least in the CEST time zone), so it’s the last moment for me to keep my word and do the monthly donations.

This month I’m supporting Tracks, a Getting Things Done app that I’ve been using on a daily basis ever since I started practicing GTD. It’s a simple but effective Ruby on Rails web application that does its job (of helping me do my job) really well. If you’re looking for a web-based GTD tool, I recommend you give it a try.

I’m also making a donation to the “Unwanted and Forgotten” Foundation, which helps homeless animals in the city of Łódź. Last month I virtually adopted a dog, so this time I’m adopting a cat — a black tomcat by the name of Jamal, who happens to very much resemble one of my own cats.

Thanks and kudos to the developers of Tracks, and to all the caring people of the “Unwanted and Forgotten” Foundation. And, to Jamal — stay cool, buddy!

SelectList with Bootstrap Flavor

Sunday, July 29th, 2012

While working on the latest release of selectList, I got the idea of making a Bootstrap skin for it. I’ve been using Bootstrap in a few projects lately, and I like the cleanliness and consistency of its UI design, so I thought it would be nice to have a version of selectList ready to be used with it.

I made a simple page demonstrating what I came up with. In case you’re too lazy to visit that link, here’s a picture:

The Bootstrap style CSS file will probably be included in the next release. For now it’s up on GitHub, so go get it from there if you’d like to use it. Any feedback is most welcome.

SelectList 0.5

Friday, July 27th, 2012

In between the loads of work that is my day job, I finally found some time to get back to working on my jQuery plugins. As a result, I’m releasing a new version of selectList, the nice and friendly multiple selection plugin.

This version brings one major addition, and that is support for setting values using jQuery .val() method. You can call it just like you would do with a regular multiple selection element:

$("select#sports").val(["tennis", "basketball", "synchronous swimming"]);

This was requested by a number of people, so it’s finally there and I hope it will be useful.

The plugin now requires at least jQuery 1.6, as it makes use of the valHooks feature introduced in that release (and that’s the main reason why I bumped the version number up to whopping 0.5).

The plugin is available here on my site and on GitHub. Sadly, it’s not available on the good old jQuery Plugins website anymore, as that site is now gone forever, with all of its contents lost.
